You are invited to see coin gutter and Phil Thomson perform at the
Scotia
Bank Dance Centre, 677 Davie St. on Aug. 22nd. Doors at 7:30,
performances
start at 8:00PM.
The performance will be held in the Faris Studio, and will feature an 8
speaker, 5-channel sound system.
It is $7 for Students, $10 for almost everyone else except the Premier
of
any Province beginning with the letter "B"; for this last category it is
$1000.
Coin gutter have been together for 3 years, and in that short time they
have released 4 CD's, a number of tracks have been accepted on
international compilations, have scored short films, and have been
commissioned to provide music for modern dance.
Most recently, they signed with Montreal's No Type Records and have
participated in MUTEK; North America's largest experimental music
festival
held every year in Montreal.
Coin gutter's latest CD, "All Your Dreams are Meaningless" is available
at
local stores. Actually, it's probably only available at Zulu.
Coin gutter could best be described as an experimental abstract sound
group. Using samplers, computers, circuit bent toys, they mix it
together
to create music that straddles genres. This is not a night of precision
laptop noodling, this is a live performance.
Little is known about The Mysterious Phil Thomson. He is currently
working
on his MFA at Simon Fraser University. He also has a laptop, and intends
to use it.
