TJ NORRIS | GENOMETRICS (Tribryd Pt. 1)

Genometrics (Tribryd Pt. 1) marks the completion of one year of quality
exhibitions at Soundvision, and the final show before closing its doors
in November. Director, TJ Norris, plans to continue pursuing his career
as a multi-media artist in his first solo exhibition since 1992,
launching Genometrics, the first of a three-part A/V installation series
of collaborations with a group of international, experimental sound
composers. Over the next few years two additional installations will be
produced as part of residencies in Germany (Nucleo: Tribryd Pt. 2) and
the Netherlands (Infinitus: Tribryd Pt. 3). Genometrics uses sculptural
elements to cryptically build from the power of DNA genetics, its subtle
implications and cloning possibilities making improvisational reference
to the daily life of the inanimate. These occurrences, though unplanned
and caused by compound elements can be referenced in the gestures of
aging, the replication of a unique source, dramatic repetition and the
digitization of the real world.

The development of Genometrics started as a word, sentence, and then a
concept. Once this concept formed, digital imagery was created, and
then shared with the nine composers, who all appear on the installation
soundtrack (see below), already well known in underground avant garde
music/noise circles. Many of these musicians have collaborated with
others in the fields of dance/movement, theater/performance, film/video
and visual arts/installation. The sound work created for Genometrics
was composed by Beequeen (Freek Kinkelaar & Frans de Waard, Amsterdam),
Illusion of Safety (Dan Burke, Chicago) and Humectant Interruption (Joel
St. Germain, New York) and is exclusive to this piece.

The TRIBRYD: Installation Soundtracks will be a limited edition cd to be
released soon including exclusive works by: Rapoon, Asmus Tietchens,
Scanner, M. Behrens, Christian Renou (Brume), Aranos, Beequeen, Illusion
of Safety & Humectant Interruption.

Beequeen

Beequeen are based in Nijmegen, the Netherlands and is composed of two
individuals, Frans de Waard (Kapotte Muziek, Goem, Freiband, Shifts) and
Freek Kinkelaar (Wander, Brunnen). They have been composing dense,
experimental sound together dating back to 1990. Frans de Waard is

Humectant Interruption

With a name like Humectant Interruption (a substance that promotes
moisture retention), Joel St. Germain has been making sticky noise for
nearly 10 years. Using tape loops and random sounds this young guy has
single-handedly commandeered the Spite Record label since the early 90s.
New York will never be the same! St. Germain has worked with the
ubiquitous Wolf Eyes, Cock ESP and the To Live & Shave in LA collective.
On Spite he has released works by Kapotte Muziek, Smell & Quim, K2,
Prick Decay and Incapacitants both on vinyl and his primary medium,
cassette tape.
