our brains are the ultimate in haptic control devices.
the process of perceiving the intelligence (or lack thereof) of discreet
sound particles - especially in quantity - generates electrical signals as a
by-product of the movement of neurotransmitters. these electrical signals
tend to be cyclic and recordable - which makes them ideal control signals
for modulation at haptic rates.
granted, most people feel that music is the odd application - they feel that
it's better to leave such technology in the hands of doctors rather than use
their brains to create the sounds they hear. but we all know better, don't
we?... ;)
seriously, there are many good medical sites that come up via Google that
give excellent definitions. especially trust the *.edu's...
anybody know an MP3 encoder for MacOS 9.* that will avoid forcing my file to
render as Joint Stereo? it kills the binaural beating and entrainment...
love, keith
