Re: [microsound] 12k = HAPPY
I was pretty suprised to get that emailfrom 12k.
I dig the 12k and line stuff, and taylors own productions
both on 12k and elsewhere, but jpop?
no f'n thanks :)
Im sure that it will be well respected in jpop circles, but
unfortunately, my musical tastes are not yet that diverse.

not sure if this has already be discussed on the list yet
or not,,,, but i
just checked the 12k site and the mysterious ? bubble now
is filled with the
word HAPPY. below is the text from the site....
---
12k founder Taylor Deupree launches a new label called
Happy, focusing on
the eclectic sounds of alternative pop music coming out of
Japan.
Happy is a result of Deupree's long-time interest in
Japanese pop music
(JPOP), and a reaction to the fact that the music is
relatively unknown and
hard to find outside of Japan. He hopes to change this with
Happy and expose
a well currated output of adventurous music to a wider
range of listeners.
Happy's debut release will be Piana's "Snow Bird." "Snow
Bird" will show a
link between the aesthetics of 12k's minimalist brand of
digital music and
the musical/vocal-inflected sound of Happy's Japanese pop.
However, Happy
will not simply be releasing "12k music with vocals" - its
scope will
broaden to cover everything from electronic music to
subdued and acoustic
indie rock.
---
the audio samples of the "Snow Bird" CD are really great, i
suggest everyone
check it out. i know im going to pick up a copy of this
album, and look
forward to this refreshing new label.
