OZONE Project: Derek Holzer + Bas van Koolwijk

OZONE is an immersive electromagnetic environment created by "artists in
residence - AIR04" Bas van Koolwijk and Derek Holzer for the Medienturm
Graz. Four video monitors display an ever-changing array of video signal
disturbances. The electromagnetic waves created by the monitors are
captured by a series of specially-constructed antennae, and then
converted to sound, which is processed and spatialized over a 4.1
channel loudspeaker system. The sound, in turn, goes on to create
further video signal disturbances, and an ongoing chain reaction ensues.
Because of the nature of radio waves, every person or object in the room
influences the relationship of sound to image, making the installation
both immersive and interactive.

OZONE will be presented in two ways during the next two weeks. The first
will be a live performance of the installation for Kunstradio next
Sunday, September 21 23:05. - 23:45 CET. Kunstradio can be heard on the
radio channel Ö1, and via webstream from the Kunstradio site:
http://www.kunstradio.at

The OZONE installation will be housed at Medienturm Graz from September
27 - December 10, 2003. Included as a supplement to this installation
will be the exhibit Radio[active] Art, a selection of radio, satellite
and electromagnetic projects curated by Kunstradio and Acoustic.Space.Lab.
