SEAMUS 2004 in San Diego

The SOCIETY FOR ELECTRO-ACOUSTIC MUSIC IN THE UNITED STATES (SEAMUS), the
annual national gathering of electro-acoustic composers, will take place in
San Diego on March 25-27, 2004.

The theme of the 2004 conference will be Diversity, Inclusion and
Connectivity: the Composers' Role in the 21st Century. The title is a bit
verbose, but the intention is to broaden the SEAMUS tent to include all
types of electro-acoustic music. From cutting edge DJ and hip-hop
experimentation, to the far reaches of avant-garde algorithm tweaking takin=
g
place in the dark laboratories of mad Ph.D. computer scientists, and
everything in between (and things that are unclassifiable!) =AD our goal is t=
o
celebrate the intense creative research that our culture is pouring forth.

We invite all artists working with electronics of any sort, style and genre
to submit their works. We have assembled a diverse panel of artists who
will program ten concerts over the 3-day festival.

For fun we are mounting a contest that awards prizes for the best dance
re-mixes of surf music and avant-garde classics (pending copyright
clearance), plus prizes for the most creative use of commercial DJ and
electronica gear and software. The festival will conclude with a concert o=
f
IDM. The public will be invited, and concerts will be structured to displa=
y
an eclectic (and eccentric!) blend of styles and approaches.
