Blung003 Toshiya Tsunoda/Civyiu Kkliu
Many of you may have already had a chance to appreciate some of Toshiya
Tsunoda's work on such fine labels as Selektion, Erstwhile, and Lucky
Kitchen. Here, this master of unprocessed field recordings again extracts
baffling and compelling sounds from the most unexpected sources. As his
descriptions are often as thought provoking as the sounds themselves I?ll
let them speak for themselves.
"Fragments for Stereophony"
The arbitrary point is placed into continuous fragments.
Distance and time appear from this point.
The point is an observer?s of a pair of ears.
"Recorded Landscape: Pier"
Listening the record of a certain place.
It may be like to see a landscape described
within the recorded time.
The place where the landscape is described is
the inside of perception of the
man who listen it.
Whereas Tsunoda's interest is very specific to eliciting sound from
locations with described methods, Civyiu Kkliu works necessarily without
description of process, and it has more to do with providing locations with
a specific sonic condition. Like his forthcoming CD on Banned Productions,
and the STAALPLAAT/bake release described as a "functioning like a utility
as do light and heat in a room," this work 1111111, from the series
111-11111111111, is a single track that is consistent, marked by subtle
changes, evenness, and indifferent beauty.

Blung004 Radu Malfatti/Ilya Monosov
One of the pioneering practicioners of minimalist improvisation presents his
latest work for three trombones in 16th intervals. This composition
"Selbander" combines dynamic silence with sensual release in Malfatti?s
ineffable style.
Approaching some of the same aesthetics from a different angle Ilya Monosov?
s ?Music for Listening? is just that. This composition is intended to act
as a catalyst for actually hearing all the sounds in our environments that
we normally filter out. Although a rigorous composition that presents its
own round sonic world it also rewards repeated listenings in different
environments by consistently bringing out the beautiful in the serendipitous
sounds that happen to occur. In his own words.
"Music For Listening, described by the composer as a serialism of memories
and expectations, is all in all arranged into '3 structures and was
generated with a digitally treated trumpet;
'on Music.For.Listenings...silent windows, through which one listens to
'outside' musics, each sound harmoniously connects with the next, silence in
between allows for alteration, rearangement, and degeneration of a possibly
forming music pattern - leaving it up to one's inner-workings.'"(i.m.2002)
