Construction sonor is based on field recordings made by the Swiss =
musician
and sound artist Bernd Schurer on behalf of Pro Helvetia. Schurer =
recorded
sounds and soundscapes of the tunnel and mountain regions, of rail and =
road
traffic, and put together a sample library as the basis for all =
following
projects. Around 15 musicians from the tunnel building areas, from the =
towns
newly connected by the tunnels and from the home countries of the =
foreign
workers will be invited to produce a track each from the samples =
available.
The tunnel will come alive with a diversity of languages: playful to
pop-like, somber, awe-inspiring or groovy. Musical categories are
transcended, patterns mixed and pigeonholes pierced.

Construction sonor will be issued as a double CD with defined concept =
and
content and completely open forms. The original samples (which are =
available
for use to any other musicians, too) will be on CD 1, the ready tracks =
on CD
2. You can find a list of the artists/musicians involve bellow. The =
release
party for construction sonor is scheduled for early 2004 at =ABMoods=BB =
in
Zurich. The concerts will be advertised in due course.

construction sonor - live performances

throughout 2004

In parallel to the CD release, a series of live performances with the
participating musicians and artists will be held. In ever-changing
composition, they will perform between Berlin and Bodio, Zurich and =
Altdorf,
Brig and Milan, giving musical expression to the themes of motion,
transformation and the overcoming of barriers of all kind. The concerts
dates will be published shortly.

construction sonor - on the web

from Dec. 2003

Mela Meierhans, a Swiss composer living in Basel and Berlin, will be =
adding
a further dimension to the website of 'Gallerie' from December 2003: a
soundscape to www.gallerie-ph.ch made up of musically processed on-site
sound recordings.

construction sonor sound installations

whole year 2004

Besides studio productions and concerts, sound installation is a further
field of activity for modern sound artists. Together with the video =
artist
Guido Henseler, Marie-Cecile Reber, a composer and electronics artist =
from
Lucerne, is designing an object that =96 triggered by what passes
coincidentally =96 comes up with sounds and images of a thus interpreted
tunnel reality. The object will be placed at various stations along the
north-south routes. It confronts travelers and passers-by with the =
acoustic
world of tunnels and images of an underground world. Information on the
precise locations and times will be published here in early 2004. =
Further
installation projects are under preparation.
