While the IDM scene panders a bit, Akida & JoLynn have decided to come
correct for their 3rd release and go back to their roots. By finding a crate
of dusty 45's in the dumpster, and returning to the art of sampling...they
have been composing hip hop beats on their old crusty MPC, instead of the
powerbook. Their take on hip hop will assault your ears. Be prepared to thug
it out with them on this special night.
Hnatiw (pronounced Nay-tow) have left the cellar, to dwell with us for their
first performance in New York City. Hnatiw is composed of brothers, Tim and
Eric Hnatow, who are a part of the Bitshift community in western
Massachusettes. Their supercharged performances is what led Akida & JoLynn
to invite them to headline a feature set at Open Air. Hnatiw's beats have
also peaked the critical ears over at Rephlex Records. Expect a
hardware-oriented performance of complex dance music so intricate you won't
believe it's being improvised right in front of you!!
