The Price of Dub
We love Vincent Price. We're quite sure you do, too.
We love good dub, dark d&b, and many other old Scorn/Pole-related
material (although both make horrid crap now).
We had this project for quite a while:
- Take a bunch of great artists (say... you and others, for instance)
- Have them use something from V Price as source material (a vocal sample,
his name, a movie he played in, etc.) and explain why it was used
- and have them make a dub track with it (and other sources as well, if you
insist)
- call the whole thing 'the price of dub' and release it as BE_Inc#25 in
say april 2004 for my 35th birthday
Here are a few answers to a few questions some of you asked:
q- Where do we get the source material?
a- you can download many samples of Vincent Price's movies (soundtracks,
dialogues, etc.) from sites such as http://www.moviewavs.com or
http://wavcentral.com/movies.htm or
by using your favourite research engine. The original idea was indeed to send
you all some source material but the man in charge of this just couldn't do
it
due to personal problems and I sure haven't got the time for that. Sorry, but
you'll have to make a little personal effort ;-) If you've never heard about
Vincent Price I guess it's time you buy one of his films (here are my
personal faves: The Abominable Dr Phibes, The Masque of Red Death, The
Fly)
q- is it a CD release?
a- this depends on the quality of the music we get. This will probably be a
pressed CD (500-1000 copies) or if I'm mad enough or the people involved
famous
enough we can try a 12" vinyl release. If all I get is crap from second
rate posers I'll send the demo to DHR.
q- I'm not into dub at all, should I send a track?
a- yes and no. No, you don't send any goth-related material, metal, noise
or free jazz. Yes, all kinds of groovy/rhythmic electronics do fit.
q- if I send a track, will I be on the comp?
a- I don't know, it depends on how many people send tracks and how good
they are.
q- can I send multiple tracks?
a- don't feel you have to.
q- can I send something already released I quickly re-worked to fit the
comp?
a- go bother Invisible records.
q- how much will I get paid for the track
a- 3-5 copies of it depending on how much we get pressed + you can buy more
copies 3 euros each. If we sell 245124521 copies of this, you'll get 0.10
euros
per copy sold.
q- can I upload an mp3 so you can DL it?
a- are you a good friend of ours? If YES: say 'please' when you're asking
for something. If NO, just get lost.
Hope this helps, waiting for your track!
