Rachel's / expect delays / Systems/Layers / Quarterstick Records
I have been a fan of the Rachel's work for some time now but this is the
first time I have played anything on the show. 'Systems/Layers' was
developed in collaboration with the SITI company for a theater piece of the
same name. It incorporates some great field recordings and has all the
atmospherics of a great soundtrack.

Aoki Takamasa / who's next? mr. bill will come and kill you to look out for
number 1 / 60 Sound Artists Protest the War / Atak
I love this track - it sounds like a thousand hollywood war films cut into
40 seconds. Takamasa's project with Takagi Masakatsu - Silicom - is superb.

Joyce Hinterding / spectral / Spectral / Sigma Editions (excerpt)
Joyce Hinterding creates her sounds using magnetic and electromagnetic
fields. This was produced during a 3 month residency at Cape Bruny
Lighthouse, Bruny Island, Tasmania. The air seems to crackle around you when
this cd is playing.

Rechenzentrum / nelson reshoot / Director's Cut / Mille Plateaux
Mille Plateaux debut for this great electronic act from Berlin. Only had one
listen so far but it is sounding good - can't wait to watch the accompanying
DVD!

Murcof / ulysses / Ulysses / Leaf
I find Murcof's music very hard to speak about. Fernando Corona's
compositions make the best use of samples that I have heard in recent
times - orchestral instruments slide in and out of the mix and combine to
create a very filmic soundscape.

Duul_Drv / a place not too far out, just close to the perimeter / Fade With
Consequence / and/OAR
S. Arden Hill in fine form... was listening to this earlier and it melts
into the background so effectively. One caller to the show commented that
they were working to the 'almost there but not there music'... lowercase at
its best huh? :)
Toshiya Tsunoda / recorded landscape: pier / Toshiya Tsunoda & Civyiu Kkliu
/ Bremsstrahlung Recordings
Toy.Bizarre / kdidctb053[fr50] (railway station static) / Phonography.org 5
/ Phonography.org
"Recorded while walking along the Limoges railway station tracks. As I was
walking, there were changes (rhythms, drones + electric flux). I believe
that the rhythm has to do with the rail switching commands. Recorded on
5/03/1998 around 10 pm. No EQ, no edit: pure raw recordings!"

Quiet American / calisthenic (an exercise in negative space) /
Phonography.org - Compositions Using Field Recordings 1 / Phonography.org
I first heard Aaron's work on the 'Hearing Place' compilation (Move
Records)... "This is a process study. The entire piece is based on a short
(~35 second?) recording I made in Laos, of some kids doing calisthenics in a
school yard with traffic whizzing by. I loop a section of it and use an FFT
filter to gradually add in more and more frequencies from the original
recording until you can tell what it is... at which point I break the loop
and let the recording play out. That's it - no layering, additional
manipulation, etc..."
