yeah, and i think that media desemination was slower then, and that as bits
and peices of 'punk' scattered out from england they landed in lots of
different local communities and sort of grew into other mutated style
communities that also called themselves 'punk'.
growing up in the Washington DC area (US) in the 80's there was a thriving
punk scene, but it really had little to do with Malcom McLaren and Vivian
Westwood, more to do with the New York scene (CBGB et all) and with
political actavism rather than the nihilism of the London scene. and i've
heard some people say it wasn't actually punk at all.....and i can see the
argument........but whatever, that's what we were calling it at the time. a
catchprase and an excuse/license for culturally unaccepable behavior.
'punk' has since been VERY historicised (is that a word?) and catagorized,
things that fell under that umberella for me when i was younger have been
broken down into smaller and smaller subgroups.

but i digress....

>experimentation and a willingness to fuck up.
>and to present those fuck ups
-> I think that was what people like can and faust
during the same period were trying to do (and did)
and also that was the reason why most of the punk
like these people...

->I must say I quite like the attitude of knowing a lot
but only using what is necessary, resulting basically
in developing restraint, rather than showing of your
ability.

yeah! i like that too sometimes.

yeah Can and Faust, and Enistersende Neubauten too......when i was
introduced to Neubauten, the Fitter mein Ego (sp?) 12 inch was the first
thing i heard from them, i was relating to it as German punk music (wether
that's what it WAS or not) and it really blew me away.

ok, sorry i'm babbling...........any thought's on micro-punk or
micro-postpunk? anyone consider their music in those terms? i guess i'm
curious cuz i've seen microsound related to jazz, hip-hop, folk and of
course classical coposition at various times on the list, but not punk.
