framework - phonography/field recording; contextual and decontextualized sound activity
presented by patrick mcginley
first off, i have a correction to make from the last playlist: i listed zephyr, from the touch records compilation spire: organ works past, present & future, as being by bjnilsen. in fact, the piece was performed by charles matthews, one of england's premiere organists. it was recorded by bjnilsen at st mary's church, warwick, on march 6th, 2003. my apologies for the error...
in this edition we featured new releases from the u.s. label ground fault recordings. ground fault has now released upwards of 30 cds, organised (loosely) into three categories: quiet, medium, and loud. field recordings tend to come under the quiet category, although many of these are certainly far from what i (or, say, bernhard guenter) would call quiet. we've featured many of these category I releases on framework in the past (crawl unit, afflux, erics cordier and la casa, jean-luc guionnet...), and this time featured two of the cds from ground fault's latest batch: one by joel stern & michael northam, and the other by murmer (my own project). the first copies of both of these releases came with a 3" cdr of extra works, and we featured sounds from these as well.
the rest of the show was taken up with several new co-releases between ground fault and their close associates auscultare research. we heard pieces by joe colley (another excellent cd from another long time framework favorite), r.h.y. yau, and a collaboration between daniel menche & kiyoshi mizutani. all in all an excellent season for these two labels...
our next edition will feature work by michael rusenberg and a live performance by trente oiseaux recording artist keith berry. tune in if you can!
one last thing: i now, at long last, have the remaining copies of the framework 2003 resonancefm benefit cd. those of you who have reserved copies will be hearing from me in the next few days to sort out details. anyone else who wants a copy please get in touch! here is the playlist again; the pieces are all excerpts and mixed from the original broadcasts into one long soundscape. oh, and those of you who appear on the cd, don't worry, i have your copies as well, and they will be going out this weekend.
