i also have major problems with my sony minidisc when recording soft ambient 
sounds. there is an abrupt hiss sounding for about 20 seconds every minute 
or so. i don't notice this problem when recording more variable volume 
sounds. i have never had good fortune with sony electronics. i think the 
minidisc is my last piece of sony-guts equipmentXIX
