[microsound] (Hardware) Fieldrecording?

I´m gonna buy "serious" recording equipment
Microphones and soundrecorder .
I´m very interested in  HHB´s MPD500 minidisc recorder, anyone with 
experience?
I´ve done some recording with  sony md´s, but I hated the sound,
the HBB seems to get very good reviews though.

I do remember (a year or two ago) someone posting  links regarding 
fieldrecording
and equipment and would be very grateful if someone could post it again.
