framework - phonography/field recording; contextual and decontextualized sound activity
presented by patrick mcginley

welcome to our first playlist of 2004 (and our last playlist of 2003 - holiday travel made it impossible to get the last one out on time, my apologies)! there are already some good plans shaping up for the coming year, starting with some upcoming live appearances: on the 6th of february we are pleased to announce a live set by trente oiseaux recording artist keith berry! we featured his brilliant release the golden boat not long ago, and are therefore very excited that he's agreed to come along. we will also be hosting a visit from dublin-based pawel grabowski on the 19th of march. pawel's improvised field recording work was also recently featured on the show, and he was here in london not long ago for a gig at the red rose with troum, dual, id, and my own project, murmer. we will hopefully have his new release on the air shortly as well...

our last show of 2003 was a special focus on the italian cdr label s'agita recordings. they have consistently impressed us with the quality of work they've put out, often by unknown (al least to me) artists, and they are definitely worth checking out. s'agita is run by the two members of long-time framework favorites logoplasm, and has an extensive backcatalogue here: http://sagitarecordings.vze.com. we featured several of their new releases, and a few old favorites, in a continual hour long mix.

our first show of 2004 was partly dedicated to the organ in all it's piping glory. we played three framework-relevant tracks from the great new 2cd compilation, spire, on touch records, consisting entirely of music either written for or inspired by the organ. i also included one of my own recordings from a recent trip to aarhus, denmark, where i and a few friends were treated to a private organ demonstration and concert in a church on the outskirts of town by a welshman we found in the street. i'm not entirely sure how it happened, but it was amazing.

we also featured multiple tracks from great new releases by paulo raposo (of sirr.ecords) & carlos santos, and justin bennet, along with repeat appearances by roel meelkop and sam britton. as always, if you missed this show you have a second chance to hear it: the repeat airs this wednesday at 11am gmt.

one last note: if you're in town (london, that is) on the 25th of this month, resonancefm is proud to announce the very first london appearance of thomas dimuzio, performing with long-time collaborator (he himself playing here for the first time in years) chris cutler. ben green, who curates the 'as' program, will be djing, and all proceeds go to keeping us on the air, so please come down! january 25th at the spitz, 109 commercial street, e1.

again, we are always looking for material for the show, whether raw field recordings, field recording based composition or introduction submissions (details below). send material, released or not, on any format, to the address below. we are also hoping to have live performances as often as possible, so if you are in or passing through london please get in touch!
