framework - phonography/field recording; contextual and decontextualized sound activity
presented by patrick mcginley
this edition featured a great live set from keith berry, presenting material from a new work entitled buddha's mile. much denser material than what we know from the golden boat, his recent release on trente oiseaux, reminding us at times of some of the work of morphogenesis, or particularly michael prime's mycoplasma. keith was generous enough to bring us a copy of the golden boat to give to a listener; it was won by colin lane of london - congrats!
keith set was preceded by two tracks from michael rusenberg's new cd, constructed from sounds recorded just outside paris in la defense. the cd features rusenberg's own composition along with several remixes from the original source material; we heard one of michael movements and a remix by eric la casa. we also listened to some recent unreleased works by french artist yannick dauby; more to come from him soon!
coming plans: our next edition will be preceded in the clearspot slot (every weekday 7-8:30pm) by a presentation of field recordings taken by filmmaker william english in dorset. the are untreated and collaged without commentary for a full hour and a half, and are beautifully contemplative (i'm listening to them right now, in fact); i highly recommend you tune in for that if you can. our broadcast will then begin with a framework intro recorded for us by william, followed by a composition of my own in response to and constructed from william's dorset recordings. the following edition, on the 5th of march, will hopefully be featuring some exclusive material given to us by justin bennett, (who will be in town for a concert at the aa with achim wollscheid on the 3rd - more info on that next time), and on the 19th of march we will be featuring a live performance by polish sound artist pawel grabowski, so a full calendar for the coming months!
once again i am very nearly out of framework introductions, so if you've been thinking about submitting one, now's the time. any format recorded with a broken dictaphone or the latest high-end dat is great, we like a variety! and there are still some copies of the framework benefit cd left; see details for both intros and cds below the playlist.
again, we are always looking for material for the show, whether raw field recordings, field recording based composition or introduction submissions. send material, released or not, on any format, to the address below. we are also hoping to have live performances as often as possible, so if you are in or passing through london please get in touch!

michael rusenberg / waiting for le petit train / la defense, stage urbain / realambient
is the penultimate movement of rusenberg's portion of this disc; this strongly evokes the modern harsh lines of paris's contemporary suburb

yannick dauby / clouds seeding / - / -
the opening of a beautiful abstracted collage of environmental recordings - we returned to this later...
yannick.dauby@xxxxxxx, http://kalerne.net
eric la casa / une rugosite, a la peripherie du gris / la defense, stage urbain / realambient
a much more raw treatment of the sound sources here, yet a strong evolution in their composition
eric.la.casa@xxxxxxx, http://ascendre.free.fr
yannick dauby / clouds seeding / - / -
....a continuation of the previous piece, regrounding us after eric's journey

keith filled the second half of this edition with material from his unreleased work buddha's mile
keithberry.uk@xxxxxxxxxx
yannick dauby / alisen / - / -
we resurfaced from keith's performance with a few more minutes of unreleased material from yannick, this time evoking the distant chiming of bells...
