Re: [microsound] copyright or wrong?
From: "Patrick Norris" <untitledartist@xxxxxxxxxxx>
I'm imagining a Bush Administration type all out assault...with some highly
creative name like "the war on copyright infringement"...In which sampling
artists are refered to as "evil doers"...
Based on this thread I'm imagining another type of war with several guerilla
factions all fighting against each other. Each group has their own
fanatical viewpoint based on a different mis-interpretation of the law and
none of the factions understand what the other ones are talking about.
There's a group of radical djs trying to patent blank white record labels
and another group of singer/songwriters that wants to trademark rhyming
structures. The poor downtrodden club owners can't afford to pay the ascap
& bmi licensing fees because they have been mistakenly sending licensing
fees to the patent holders of the genetically modified beer they're selling.
The story's protagonist sits in a darkened corner rocking back and forth
frightened of the RIAA that's out to get him. No more art is made and the
world is plunged into another dark age.
