Related and quite interesting to know. 11 october last year provider
xs4all organized a party called c-free (copyright free). On this party
a large number of bands and artists performed. One of the deals was
that the artists had their live recordings (made on the party) put for
free download on party website. Both Artists and Record companies
agreed on this. So no extra payment had to be paid. Soon after the
recordings were put on the site for download the Bumra Stemra (the
copyright organization) filed a complaint because all artists
used songs over which copyrights had to be paid. btw the artists used
their own songs which copyrights would be protected by the Buma
Stemra.
The copyright organization Buma Stemra demanded money for the
downloads because they claimed that they take care of collecting the
copyright money. Buma Stemra demanded 20 eurocent for every
downloaded song. So at the moment the downloads are disabled. xs4all
filed a complain though.
Weird thing in this case is that through a copyright organization as
Buma Stemra that takes care of collecting your money you should
get from copyrights, you don't seem to have control over your own
music. The way out Buma Stemra suggested was that the artists would
pay themselves the obligatory copyrights.
