[microsound] Re: (OT) sampling

one thing i like to do:

find a busy public spot (i.e. a patio on a sunny weekend) and just sit there with the minidisc recording...i seem to always catch conversations that i was complete unaware of at the time...alot of really bizzarre things often get 'caught'...i've always wondered if the atrac compression system filters things in such a way that some background noises actually become clearer...

i did this a couple of weekends ago and suddenly realized that a woman who was sitting near me was going on about her fear of the dark, her inability to sleep at night because of this...really weird.
chopped up parts of it to make this really spooky narration.
