RE: [microsound] Csound & Pd
I would also recommend the csound techno list if you make IDM. I think you
can find the list info on <csounds.com>. Personally, I would recommend PD
over Csound, as the latter is a more old-school programming language, with
a "code-compile-audition-tweak-compile-audition" cycle that can be
time-consuming and less than interactive. PD lets you tweak in real time
and generates something a little more gratifying to the tweaker that lives
in all of us. I use Csound mainly for DSP rather than for composition. PD
is more improvisatory, so I use it mainly for testing stuff out and
playing rather than serious compostional work. Unfortunately there's not
much to read for PD, as it's much less well-documented than Csound, but
some of the MAX/MSP documentation is usable for PD.
Good luck!

"Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the
leader. This is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being
attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing
the country to danger. It works the same in every country."
