[microsound] Client-therapist matching study
This is a slightly off-the-wall way to get in touch after a hiatus,
but an old friend of mine (the guitarist in my late-1960s band in
fact) could use some help with his PhD thesis in psychology. He needs
some guinea pigs in the Marin area, so If you or any local friends
have some free time and would like to participate it would help him
out. Ken is an interesting guy anyway, so it's worth getting in touch.
I'm not implying that you're "tetched" or anything.
Richard,
Here is a description of my study, and participants I need, which I
told you about on the phone. You said to email it to you, and maybe
someone you knew in Marin would be willing to participate.

Description of Need for Participants in Clinical Study on
Client-Therapist Matching
I am carrying out a clinical study of a computerized system I have
created for matching people to psychotherapists in a more beneficial
manner than the random way people usually find therapists. For this
study, I need several people who are willing to participate by being
matched to therapists. A study participant could be anyone who
lives or works in Marin County and is either:
a) thinking about going to a therapist, but doesn't know who to go to
b) curious about going to a therapist, and willing to try it to see
if they like it
c) unhappy with their present therapist, and interested in trying a
different one
This doesn't have to be someone who "needs to see a therapist." It
can be someone who is just curious, or interested in trying a
therapist for at least a few (three) sessions to see what this is
like. I promise that at the minimum they will get to participate in
an interesting and fun study. Of course, the maximum benefit is
being matched to a therapist that is just right for helping someone
with important problems in their lives.
Here is some more information about how my therapist matching system
works. Therapists who participate answer a computerized
questionnaire, and are then part of the pool of therapists who can
be matched to clients. (A person who goes to a therapist is called
that therapist's "client"). I already have 25 Marin therapists who
have agreed to participate in my study, who have taken their
questionnaires, and who are now entered into the computer. A person
who wants to find a therapist then answers a computerized client
questionnaire. My computer program evaluates the compatibility of
each therapist with the client, based mainly on personalities,
client preferences, and styles of therapy. I then help the client
find the right therapist based on the therapists' compatibility
ratings. There is no charge for this referral service.
This study is part of my psychology Ph.D. thesis. If anyone has any
interest in knowing more about any of this, call KEN FRANKEL at
