[microsound] RE: skipping cd effect

to answer yr question, the easiest way to achieve a similar effect to that of a cd skipping in max/msp is by messing around w/ the loop points. i find that the easiest way to do this is by using the groove~ object, because it already has two inlets for number boxes for adjusting loop points.

DFX's buffer-override VST plug-in also works really well for emulating this effect. it might even work better because it has more of a randomized feel to it, and you can sync the tempo in a variety of ways. the best part about it is that it's free.

for future reference i find that the three best resources for max questions are 1) the help files - each object has one, and each help file is a patch in itself, so you can pick it apart and figure out how it operates; 2) the tutorials; 3) the max/msp list - you can subscribe from the cycling 74 website, and i've never done this, but you can check their archives. people post their own patches on the list all the time too, so you can pick those apart and see how other people are usign max.

i just realized that perhaps i should have sent this e-mail directly off-list, but i've already deleted the original. please forgive me, it's early in the "morning" for me. sorry if this redundant for any max veterans. hope i answered question sufficiently. have fun, and don't get too obesessed. it's real easy to : )

happy music making,
