Subject: AID Public Launch Announcement
Calling all artists, educators, engineers and copyleft interventionists:
The Art Interface Device (AID) is a Free and Open tool for building
electronic artworks. It is a two way interface between the physical world
and the digital world. It is used to create interactive installation and
performance works.
All are invited to attend the public launch of the Art Interface Device on
Wednesday, May 26 2004 at 8 PM, EST. The launch and demonstration will be
held at Funhaus night club, 526 Queen St. W. Toronto, Canada. One block
East of Bathurst.
This information session and celebration will present the AID hardware and
software components and demonstrate their use in interactive applications
incorporating sound, vision and touch. AID artists and engineers will be on
hand to answer questions. Music, drinks and snacks will be available as the
AID launch becomes party and blends into the asciipr0n.com IRQ11 club night.
DJ Lewis Kaye, audio hacker Rob Cruikshank and coder Mel Wilson will
collaborate to create interactive soundscapes on the fly using the AID
audio switcher. PD meister Ben Bogart will be installing Step
and Repeat - an interactive video projection piece controlled by the AID
ultrasonic sensor and you. Mike Steventon will be showing a little ditty
that uses the AID bend sensor and other strange things as they materialise.
Esteemed AID developers Ian Garmaise, John Southern, and Stefan Wiechula
will be on hand to answer tech-art questions from the dance floor.
Visit the AID web site http://aid.interaccess.org where AID users are
building a library of "worked solutions" to common electronic sensing,
control and interfacing requirements. You can download and contribute
instructions, parts lists, circuit diagrams and other information relevant
to the creation of electronic art.

AID is a project of InterAccess - electronic media arts centre, and is
funded by the Canada Council for the Arts.
