as you should- mp3s are a lossy compression algorithm. i'm a big fan of
flac [http://flac.sourceforge.net/], but this discussion [cd (wav) vs.
mp3] is not about distribution, it's about audio formats.

i can relate. just because the music is distributed via computer network
doesn't mean you have to play it there.

i'm thinking more of a world where you can get the files [audio, image,
text, whatever] and you can do with them what you will: view on screen;
transfer to disc, paper; modify to use in your own creation; and so on.
