We use Record Industry in Haarlem (Netherlands).
They do anything from the european pressing of Robby Williams releases to
relatively small experimental releases. The nice thing is that they won´t
touch your material without caling to confirm. We had one or two situations
where a error had creaped into the master cd and another one where somehow
left and right were out of phase. They´ll call you to make sure stuff like
that is not meant as a artistic expression before doing anything. Quite a
important property for presses to have if you want to press experimental
material. Good; they have some new kind of process for doing coloured vinyl
without the surface noize that is so often a part of those. Bad; no locked
grooves.
When pressing anything, remember to make sure you give instructions about
how you want it pressed. Normal policy is to get the material as loud as
possible but that might not be apropriate for subtile experimental material,
you can also press less loud but with more sound quality. If at all possible
try to get the engineer at the press in contact with the artist himself.
Yours,
Kas.
