Questions to pose to the question:

1. "who has had more of an influence on 21 century electronic music?"

a. What do we mean by "electronic music?" From which tradition/ vein?

b. Given that current arguments have recognised the collective, "genetic"
nature of electronic music, why is this list focused on primarily white,
male individuals (save for the duo of Autechre)?

c. Missing here:

*all black traditions:
- dub (Lee Perry, The Upsetter, etc)
- house (Fingers Inc, Larry Heard, etc)
- techno (May, Saunderson, Atkins et al)
- disco (Moroder etc)
- hip-hop (Afrika Bambaata et al)

*all industrial movements:
- Throbbing Gristle / Psychik TV, Teste, Coil, etc.

*all progressive electronic rock:
- ELP, Pink Floyd, Frank Zappa, Captain Beefheart, etc.

*all women involvement:
- Laurie Andersen
- Paulina Oliveros
- Hildergaard Westerkamp, Janet Cardiff, etc.
- Fanni Cosey of Chris n' Cosey
- BeBe Barron (Forbidden Planet)

d. What do we mean by "influence"?

Arguably, statistically--and this question produces a graph, a statistic, a
numerical value--the greatest influence is NONE of these people (although
Eno's work with U2 et al probably garners his influence, at the statistical
level of record sales, at the top of the heap).

How do we measure "influence"?

If by numbers alone, it's probably Pink Floyd, whose use of motifs from all
of the above list (of the question) launched their work into popular, global
reception.

If a "strain" of influence, then it's whoever was born earliest and did the
most work, as then it's a simple case of reinstating the traditional,
patriarchal history of cause-and-effect influences (patrilineage).

---> so the question is for the next poll: .. what is a poll in the 21C?

a. a number of questions each of which can be questioned
b. a series of series of which the answer is ultimately the empty set
c. none of the above
d. all of the above
