but your problem with that certain bedroom bore (to use aphex's description of
himself) is not due to the limitations of digital technology; it's that he is
simply a bad or amateur musician. trying to emulate a musical aesthetic with
which he is completely unfamiliar (that not to mention, an aesthetic that
prides itself in the authencity of the analogue).

why bother?

i've always thought the point of new musical technology is to create new kinds
of music. i'm from the school of thought that says a synth should sound like a
synth and not a sitar.

the whole point of ableton live, and even final scratch, to a lesser extent, is
to create new kinds of music that are impossible in the analogue realm, i would
hope. why emulate a vinyl aesthetic when there are so many more possibilities
cracked wide open by a CPU?
