Re: [microsound] new autechre

Come now, does it really matter? Should any of us legitimately say "Aha, they were using /analog/ gear, I guess the album is much better than I thought it was." I don't think they ask for their music to be understood that way, and I don't think we gain much from approaching it that way ourselves. Though, I must add that, no matter the gear they're using, they certainly refer pretty explicitly to the history of analog drum machines / step sequencing (esp. by way of the electro that they've always been fascinated by) all over Untilted... I'm inclined to think that this is a pretty important thread in the album (I suppose my question to the rest of the list would be how exactly do ya'll think they're dealing with this history, and is it at all interesting, or just a retro for retro's sake). It's more interesting than the typical M83-esque analog nostalgiafests, anyway.

Ummm What? This release has tons of algorithmic effects and processes on it.
Do you seriously think everything you hear on this record from the beats to
the synthesis was all done in hardwware???????????

hi,

there's no algorithmic use on it, it's all hardware sequencers. no
max/msp,etc.

it is very challenging and an experiment, it's not pop-music or glitch,
etc., it's not predictable.

the posts after that one are kind of thin, also. :)

p.s. i do hope they don't blow live...
