.....could be worse than getting grilled... you could have all your gear and 
money confiscated in by customs as youre thrown out of Russia, with the 
obvious threats or all your gear confiscated accompanied by strip search by 
customs thugs at heathrow, topped off with a short incarceration before 
getting tossed.

its always best to lay low, youre not an artist or musician or performer, 
youre just some chump tourist or visiting friends is the most benign cover 
story. you simply cant live without your computer, even traveling. how else 
are you going to play solitaire?

ive toured through Europe for a few years with a couple of powerbooks, a 
mixer, effects, direct boxes and cables (and handiCam) with the excuse of 
being a visual (or video) artist without much trouble, always being sure to 
mention that i'm just visiting for inspiration, not showing.

however, after 2001, the occasional empty everything out at x-ray as they 
needed to see what all the wires and devices has become almost always 
obligatory.

that has grown so tiresome that ive vowed to strip it down to as bare as 
possible next time. ive also made it a habit to stay out of the most 
notorius checkpoints of the former soviet.
