Re: [microsound] The Register speaks out on copyright and remix nerds ...

Wow, I thought this article was terrible. I failed to see even a single logical argument or coherent point. Just anecdotes and snide asides - although I did like the idea of dressing up as a Star Trek character to get inside the mind of a techno-utopian...

The main point, though, is that a majority of talented artists DON'T make a living under the current system. I wouldn't blame copyright laws for this, but I would certainly say it puts the whole argument in a different light. I think it's pretty common knowledge that the current system is nothing close to a meritocracy that compensates artists based on the quality of their work.

Oh wait, and I forgot this one: "In recent years, we've seen a return to authenticity, and a resounding rejection of smart aleckery and the ironic. Forms such as folk have lost their stigma, and full-on, early 70s rock is the most popular form of music for teenage English kids. There's nothing ironic about getting drunk, jumping and down, and falling over, so this is all very healthy. People simply ran out of patience with jumpy, glitchy cross cuts."

When did this happen, and where? Did I miss that memo? I almost fell out of my chair laughing when I read that. Tonight I'm going to get drunk and trust me, it will be rather ironic.
