Re: [microsound] podcasting site?

hi all,

i've been working on a system similar to pod casting, and i figured
this may be a good topic to get a line in about it.

it uses the atom syndicated format rather than rss, and is very simple.

thus far i have designed a simple atom feed generator and an
interesting atom feed aggregator. i haven't deployed it yet however;
the aggregator's data collection has been running on evolving data for
about a month.

i have planned to release two implementation systems.. a free database
driven web based audio file management system (for netlabels)
supporting the atom integration and a more simple text-file database
php system in which it is a matter of filling out a list of existing
files and file information to generate a feed..

ofcourse opensource, and implemeted in php with mysql.

i am not a windows and/or mac programmer, so i can not implement these
feeds in winamp or other audio players, although i am looking into
writing a plugin for xmms (for linux).

the original purpose is for content syndication and aggregation for
independant musicians and labels while support ogg vorbis, flac, and
mp3(reluctantly). most of the tools to generate feeds will be released
opensource and may also implement the rss syndication (podcasting)
format.

if anyone is interested in these tools, let me know, and i can rush to
get the prototype to a functional state as well as release format
specifications based on atom.

i prefer the word content syndication to 'podcasting'. this word makes
me wince each time i hear it.

nathan
