[microsound] TWiki/Wiki/php
I personally am queasy about Twiki's security, but
that's not a rational criterion. I also don't particularly like the
way Twiki deals with file uploads, but I don't know if there's
anything that's much better.
yes, my personal TWiki site was hacked (or whacked) last year and I
lost all the pages from my various workshops...so I understand people's
concern about the security issues...
I recently switched ISP's from SBC (great customer service/ horrible
features) to Alterhosting.com (really LAME customer service/very nice
features) and AH have a range of php products such as phpwiki and
phpforum among others...so far, my end user experience with phpwiki has
not been anything to cheer about - but having only used TWiki prior to
this I don't have too much else to compare it to...
that being said, I am not opposed to using another wiki-styled package
if someone wouldn't mind playing with some of them and writing a little
review and posting it to the list...this way we can have some public
dialog about the plus and minuses of each package...
security IS an issue with *any* network oriented software and I have to
agree with John here:
open source developers are very open about security flaws (since they
don't stand to lose money on sales of their product) and are typically
quick to offer patches as compared to the bigger and less agile
companies who tend to patch when it fits into their spare development
cycles...
as for MediaWiki not having many exploits:

the site also has a mailing list which I sub to which keeps you abreast
of the latest exploits on various platforms...
