Actually, you can treat any kind of data as raw audio data. With
programs like sox (available for linux and also for Windows, see here:
http://sox.sourceforge.net/) you can convert any file to regular wav
files. On linux, you can play any file without problems:

cat myfile.pdf > /dev/dsp0

fu.
