well that's a convoluted play on musical terminology
hinting at microtonal substata but what i mean is at
least in the usa and germany the height of an
escalator step is higher, by maybe even 4 inches, than
those in the stairway or at least enough higher that
it makes walking up or down a bit more difficult and i
notice many an elderly person will take the stairs
rather than attempt walking up the escalator when it
is not functioning...
