It is the escalators at the entrance for the Metro/underground/U-Bahn at Union Station in Washington DC.  My best guess is that the escalators raise about 12-15 feet and each one is 48inches wide at the most.  I will take a pict later and try to email it.  

To capture not only the sound of the escalators, but also the extra noise from the people.
