Re: [microsound] Along the lines of the "visual arts" question...
well maybe its like learning to draw properly: i could
put in the hours (there would be plenty) but i'd
rather do something else, (lots of reasons why i
guess, not doing a formal arts degree might be one, i
mean its like a pianist who can play bach but cant do
there own stuff, too 'well trained') more immediate:
like making stencils and using them a few times. not
to devalue 'proper' drawing - although i might point
out that i draw most of my stencils anyway - but i
like the different application to image that stencils
etc provide. also prefer spray cans to paint brushes,
not that i dont use p brushes either. hmmm.
sound can be visual in effect and vice versa: what
kind of sound would a picture make? (in your head, not
in metasynth etc). i think musics informed visuals for
me and vice versa more than i could say: i used to dj
a lot in london in the 90's and then when i got a day
job i fell out of that, ended up spending loads of
time in art galleries at the weekend......
also: just to sya the cover of a 12k release, 'After',
12k017, is pretty visual as its the underside of a
motorway / freeway (i think) underpass. very cool i
like it a lot, and it resonates with the sounds on the
disc.
