[microsound] Re: [ot] archos 402 camcorder
From: Aaron Ximm <ghede@xxxxxxxx>
Fwiw this usually will not work very well alas, the pre gets saturated
before A/D. IMO it's worth investing in a preamp/plug-in-power box
that
has switchable roll-off.
good point and I had thought of this but had also gotten some
clipping/overload on the Archos -- so at a glance I couldn't tell
which stage in the recording chain was clipping...but this makes
sense since the SP-PREAMP-4 is a constant gain device with attenuator/
sliders on the pre-amp OUTPUT in order to minimize noise...
that being said, I've written to Sound Professional making a couple
of suggestions for the SP-PREAMP-4:
- 100Hz roll-off on pre-amp input
- a tiny red clipping LED
- extra foam to better stabilize the lower part of Archos while
seated in the case
- rotating the pre-amp PCB so the logo on the CLEAR lid of the case
doesn't obscure the right ch. slider position (this only effects the
Otter case with the clear lid)
but all in all I am happy so far with the SP-PREAMP-4 and can't wait
to try it out in while performing in Mexico City next week!
