Absolutely not. I have a very demanding full-time sysadmin job, it's a
marvel I write any music at all. Plus I personally have a very difficult
time fitting my musical philosophy into the real money-making part of the
music business anyway, and have no desire to go there, so I must find income
through something more substantial.

I'm very happy that anyone who can apply their craft to supporting
themselves and their families, and that includes anything a person develops
as a talent they love, not just music. For me, income from music work is not
nearly enough to support my family, and especially not the kind of music I
do, so I have no impetus to 'make money' doing it.

In my opinion, it's not the music we're buying, it's the packaging,
presentation and convenience of distribution. I've bought several of Kim's,
Taylor's and Richard's releases on vinyl and mp3 (iTMS), but don't fool
yourself that music sales are a huge source of income. As far as these
artists are concerned, I doubt they believe that either.
The discussion (IMHO) should really be about the larger Music Industry, and
new ways of distributing your music without the *need* to make money from
it. As a corollary, the need to make music that isn't dependent on a
financial gain.
