Uber-intuitive looping software that you can use to trigger samples with
your computer keyboard. Used to be free on OS9, but I think they probably
raised the price when they started doing OSX and Windows versions. It's not
controlled by ORI anymore, though a lot of their legacy software is on that
site. Bunch of really cool tools for live performance.

Back to Basics was one program that got me started in this direction,
sometime around '97 I think. Great great great improvisation tool with an
extremely low learing curve.

But you'll want something to prepare your samples too. Check out this

It's Mac-centric, but has links at the top to other platforms if you're not.
