[microsound] Symbiont ( as Mutualist) : invitation to submit work
May 24, 2006
What is Symbiosis?
Symbiosis is an intimate and protracted association between two or more
organisms of different species. The original definition of symbiosis by
deBary (1879) did not include a judgment on whether the partners benefit
or harm each other. Currently, most people use the term symbiosis to
describe interactions between the symbiont (the smaller organism) and
the host (the larger organism) from which both partners benefit; this is
also called a mutualism. If there is negative effect on one of the
partners, it is called a parasitic symbiosis and if there is no
beneficial or negative effect it is a commensal symbiosis.

Symbiont ( as Mutualist ) : a Microsound Project.
This is a formal invitation to the microsound list to submit work on the
theme of the symbiont as mutualist.
Inspiration to initiate this project comes from experiencing previous
microsound community projects and especially by the interesting and
dynamic outcome of the Microsound Parasites Rework Project [ see
http://microsound.org/parasites/ ]
You are encouraged to explore all previous projects at www.microsound.org
A few details are still being worked out within the microsound
repository but there is now a Folder in the Projects area where your
personal folder can be created and works can be deposited.
The definition of Symbiont for this particular project is being narrowed
to that of "Mutualist".
Guidelines:
It has been suggested that .mp3 files should be 192 kbps/44.1kHz stereo

Any sonic possibilities are acceptable.
Duration of pieces : 3 minutes or shorter.
Limit : one piece per artist.
Post to the microsound list that you have uploaded your piece ( include
the name of the piece)
Deadline for submissions : July 1, 2006 ( might be extended )
Use filetype suffixes in your filenames : for example: mynewpiece.mp3
Do not use spaces or non-alphanumeric characters in filenames:

This is an experimental project. Suggestions for clarification and
