Re: [microsound] I want my MTV

I saw AE in Chicago about 4-5 years ago.. and I still use them as an example of how APALLINGLY BORING most laptop shows are.
Awesome music, obviously, hell, they're frickin' sonic geniuses - but I can see two guys scowling at their powerbooks at the Starbucks around the corner.

They were questioned by the interviewer about the lack of visuals in their
show, and they said they preferred a full audio experience with no
distracting visuals. On the interviewers insistence, they threw that line
about computers being too slow for realtime graphics ae-style, in
reference to the Gantz Graf video made by Alex Rutherford.

This made me doubt seriously about my necessity to prepare visuals for
every concert. Thats why I just show my desktop now, whenever theres a
projector available.

Sorry cant tell, is this sarcasm on their/your part?

Hope so, otherwise a better excuse would be. "We cant afford the
computers that are able to process the realtime visuals we would like
for our shows"

I think its all a matter of creativity and just how much effort you
want to put into it. And why is it that computers are the only viable
medium for visuals??? Film and sound are a powerful combination,
especially as a starting point at least.

Ha!

I can recall an interview to (not again!) Mr. Rob Brown and Mr. Sean

were they said that they play with no visuals at all because
"computers to

we
would like for our shows"

I wish I can come up with an excuse as good as this one for the next
promoter that calls me!

The can do it, they're ae...

If sampling and approptiating audio material is
an interesting source for raw material, perhaps
email is, as well. seems appropriate in the context
of this whole discussion of why/whether or not
we need visual stuff. My synchronicity for the day:

"...so the visuals are working fine now, and guess what?
the little scensters still won't shut the fuck up or quiet down,
and the fruit of our labors is that now they don't pay attention
to the whizzy new visuals, either. I'm going back to art gallery
gigs - at least people pretend to be there to watch or listen."

I warned her, too. An elitist is born!
