Re: [microsound] OT: those programs spammers use to generate random text?

Great for lateral thinking projects.

Hmmmm. I have some links and even a folder and explanation
on doing this kind of thing,
but I'm such a newbie when it comes to this kind of stuff
that maybe someone else may be interested in (off-line)
getting together on this.

The deal:

There's a fellow who has something called "Spamtrap"

http://www.ucf.ics.uci.edu/~bob5972/randomPoetry.shtml

I was enjoying it until he took it down one week
He then reconfigured it to what you see at the above
address because he was getting into serious SPAM loops
connected with the fake email addresses, like this *other* fellow's Spamtrap:

http://downlode.org/perl/spamtrap/spamtrap.cgi

Anyway, the first guy sent me a folder of how I can create
my own adaptation of Spamtrap using a huge folder of words
(that can be added to if one wishes).

In his words:

"I...send you the script I'm using, but it's set up to run under Linux on our web servers.
Getting it to run somewhere else or under Windows would require a working Perl installation
and a little bit of Perl programming knowledge."

After informing him of my being on a Mac with Perl pre-installed,
he said, "You'll need to install this Perl module: http:// search.cpan.org/dist/HTML-Parser/
which I'm not entirely sure how to do under OSX,
but the readme has some instructions on how to do it from a terminal that should work.

"Then put all those things in the same folder, and try and run the generateWebpage.sh script
(which just tells the other one to write into a file called poem.html) and it might work."

The script that he's referring to was sent to me in a folder with a dictionary file and a ".pl" file.

Anyway, anyone with knowledge of putting all of this together
(probably a simpler activity than I'm making it out to be)
can feel free to contact me and I'll send the folder on to you.
I'd love to know how I can install this script on my desktop,
so I'd appreciate it if you could walk me thru it.

best to all,

Rod
