[microsound] Re: (ot) summer book reading list

Ive been reading a few things lately:

James Joyce 'Ulysses' - too much has probably been said about this book, and by smarter people than I. Suffice it to say, it's dense, frequently beautiful, and often cited as the first post-modern novel.

Michael Pollan 'Omnivore's Dilemma' - very interesting book that address what and how we eat. A quick thought provoking read.

Stanislaw Lem 'Fiasco' & 'Cyberiad' - Many cite 'Solaris' as their favorite of Lem's, but I'm really fond of 'Fiasco' which delves into hard science fiction with a dark psychological edge. 'Cyberiad' is more along the lines of his humorous sci fi, a series of short stories, a bit like mathematical Aesops Fables.

Hazrat Inayat Khan 'The Mysticism of Sounds & Music' - I like sufi writing, and this book in particular might appeal to music producers with a more metaphysical bent. Encouraging & inspiring.

Samuel Delany 'Triton' - Love it, very cosmic, ecastatic science fiction. Delany is a favorite of mine, and here he really delves into the psychology of a very bizarre future.

James Leo Herlihy 'Midnight Cowboy' - Really dark book, sort of contemporary noire. Darker than the movie. Grimey.

Nord Micro Modular Instruction Manual - I'm getting nowhere fast as I get into hardware, but hooray for Nord!
