well, you can try and adjusting the levels of the input signal via
control panel [make sure nothing's plugged in]. i've never had your
particular, um, 'experience' before. my expectation is that there's a
analog to digital converter that does the work of turning the audio
into a digital format. i wouldn't expect it to 'blow' like a speaker,
it would just write FFFFFFF [or whatever].

but i am not an audio hardware engineer, so maybe this type of thing
is possible.

i would guess a USB audio is always an option, whether or not you have
blown the converter.

you might also try google or the search engine of your choice on
something like 'audio analog digital converter blown' or something
similar.

also, try the 'line in' instead of mic. mic input usually adds 20db to signal.
