[microsound] cultural bias
"Unless I know who's making it, how am I going to know whether it's
good music or not?"
that comment could be (and has been) deeply dissected and analyzed
it reveals nicely the cultural bias instilled in the populous with
regard to the arts
both from a spectator view as well as a curatorial
to wit:
'music for an art opening? how about DJ blah!'
'sounds like a wannabe Brian Eno'
'he's Japanese so his noise is the real stuff'
(all things overheard in my travels -- and there's more where that
came from)
it's a shame that most people can only decide if something is 'good'
via their cultural biases
and all too readily toss out the 'unknown' as being of lesser quality
a pity the number of really amazing artists who toil away in obscurity
