i suggest an analog MODULAR synth if it's for an university -
better to learn the principles of synthesis without a fixed architeture.

there's lot of manufactures today:
buchla, serge, wiard, plan b, doepfer, modcan, motm, synthesizers.com...

all new modulars. google it.
