Re: [microsound] Help: 5.1 Surround mixdown
apart from what bard said about the dolby surround,
id like to figure out why you only have two files generated
i do this for work( doco soundtracks) regularly ( from logic) and so
i just booted back into 7.2 and did a test and generated a 5.1 set of
stems
please check:
that under AUDIO>SURROUND you have selected the chosen format ie 5.1
that your audio channels have surround panners activated with the same
format
that when you "bounce" you choose the surround bounce option and the
format you want
this will/should generate file-L file-R file-LR file-RR file-C file-LFE
these files go to the sound post guy that does the encoding of the
finished sessions in Tools
the only encoding ive personally used is the ac3 one with apple
compressor, [[ac3 is the technical name for dolby digital which
downmixes "automatically"]]
i know ive seen encoders and decoders out there, but have no direct
urls .. google is your friend
http://www.grammy.com/Recording_Academy/Producers_And_Engineers/Guidelines/
has a good pdf on surround recomendations.
best,
leyton
