[microsound] Re: Death of Monoculture

" They are not known either for political reasons" This is very true. My family come from the eastern block and so have experienced life under Stalin and censorship.

"you can' t argue that people turn down other cultures because of =20
their own! " I wasn't arguing this (or anything for that matter) - sorry if you got that impression (ditto for most of the rest of your post responding to me). Just observing what I experience from some of my friends' attitudes towards classical music. Some of them say they wish they had had the opportunity to learn about western classical music during their education, and some of whom say it is not relevant to them. But anyway.....

I am back studying an MA at the moment and in one module about performance my tutor said that she didn't think Classical Music should be taught in London Schools at all, in music classes (in the UK) as it is not relevant to the pupils, many of whom aren't from western backgrounds. I don't necessarily agree with this but it does seem to be one attitude in the UK at the moment.

I am veering off the original subject now.
