Re: [microsound] impossible sounds
hello Kim,
thanks for posting this. -was noticing low tones in a violin
recording just recently and commenting to a friend.
when i was a teenager i thought of somehow enhancing or amplifying
(acoustically , that is ) the low tones from the violin and even of
having a string section with only violins and bass viols ; calling it
futuristic or avant garde , or something more chic than : 'i don't
know what a 'cello or a viola is or don't know how to write in that
clef'.
honestly , though: at first i thought it might be a sort of ambient
room tone , mic rumble or extraneous vibration through the wooden
floor. the violin is often very intense and it might be possible to
cause other objects to vibrate at a fraction of the frequency of the
fundamental violin tone.
... or maybe it's body electricity or blood circulation , or the
difference between that and the resonant frequency of the earth and
the note being played.
